Thoughtful Thursday

I have not talked much about my children since I started this blog. However, they have been the inspiration for everything I have done with my life since their birth. They are my greatest accomplishments in my life thus far. Anything else I accomplish in this world would be because of the motivation, and inspiration they provide me with each day. I have learned so many things from them and they continue to teach me new things everyday. I hope I have given them half of what they have given to me.

The biggest part of my life's journey is to provide my children with all the tools the need to become successful citizens. So everything I do is a product of performing that duty to the best of my ability. There are definitely up and downs. Some days I don't know if I am always doing the right thing. But one thing I do know is I will continue to give it my all. I will love them with everything I have and make my decisions based on doing the right thing.  Something wonderful has to come from following these strategies!

How adorable!!! Love my babies!!!

Please come back tomorrow for feature Friday.

Scavenger hunt

Hello everyone!!!! This week I am on on a scavenger hunt for an old window. Since I have a specific spot for all my vignette designs. I decided that it would benefit me more if I had some decor that was interchangeable.  Currently I have a clock and two wrought iron square pieces hanging on the wall. Which is not conducive to all the changes that happens in that area. So I thought nothing would be more perfect than an old worn window. That I can incorporate that into any vignette design.

How beautiful are these windows. I have endless ideas running through my mind while looking at these windows. Now, I have to find them. I been to the thrift stores, and searched Craigslist. Thus far I have not found any. I guess I will try a salvage yard next.  I will continue my search and report back when I have found them. See you soon!!

Tutorial Tuesday

Hey Everyone, I am working on a sweets table for an upcoming baby shower. I
I needed a quick backdrop idea. So I decided to use some foam core and wrapping paper. How easy and quick is that.

Supplies

  • Foam core
  • Wrapping paper
  • Mod podge
  • Ribbon
  • Decorations of choice
  • Cover foam board with modge podge
  • Place wrapping paper on foam board and smooth
  • Frame with ribbon
  • Decorate
I did not smooth all the wrinkles out of the wrapping paper. I wanted to have texture. I used crowns and a letter to add to my backdrop. Since I am working on a royal theme baby shower. Here is the finish product!

Isn't it super cute. Well I think so. I love it!!!!  I will have pictures of the full project soon!!!!

See you soon!!!!

Blogging Journey

Hello everyone, did not get a chance to blog much last week. This blogging thing is a little more challenging than I thought. I believed it would be very easy for me to blog each day. Since I have so many thoughts in my head. I believed that all my interesting thoughts, creative insights and my personal style would instantly translate into a interesting, thought provoking and fun blog. However, it has not been that simple. But I am up for the challenge!!! So moving forward, instead of setting up a mental block by worrying so much about creating a blogging masterpiece. I will focus on sharing  my journey. The good, bad and ugly. I hope you will follow me on my journey!!!

Sneak Peek
On Monday I posted a sneak peek of the egg topiary I was working on for my spring vignette. Since it did not turn out like the picture I had in my mind, I had reservations about posting. I went back and forth on whether I was going share it. But after having a talk with friend and fellow blogger Tabby about how social media helps perpetuate the perception that world and everything in it is picture perfect. I decided to post my topiary with all its imperfections. Tabitha has a series on her blog about this topic. Follow her series.

Here it is.  Hope you like it. Look out for my next project. See you soon!!!!

Happy Monday

Happy Monday!!!!!!! I believe in teaching my children the art of giving. It is a honorable trait that helps build the character of a person. This weekend my baby had a lesson in the act of giving. She and her BFF made valentines cards for the elderly. Something a simple as a card helps the elderly combat depression. I thought this was awesome.  Thanks to my friend and fellow blogger Tabitha my daughter has learned  a lesson in the importance of giving.  For many more good ideas visit Tabitha at shipwreckedonfabulousisland.blogspot.com

Also, last week I shared that I am working on several projects.  I am currently working on a very cool topiary. Here is a sneak peek.

Come back tomorrow and see the complete project.  Thanks for stopping by!!!!!!

My hubby loves spicy things, after all he is married to me!!!  So we made sure he had his hot chips, and hot tamales.

We also had to include a beer mug. Nothing like a cold one after a hard day at work.

We included some other things that he will enjoy! It was quick and easy to put together.  However it is on my love list because it came from the hearts of my daughter and I. Hope he loves it as much as we do!!!!

Tutorial Tuesday

Valentine Craft

Hello everyone, here is a tutorial of a quick valentines craft I made for my children to share with thier classmates. It super easy and very cute!!!!

Supplies
  • Card stock
  • To and from stamp
  • Ink pad
  • Lollipops
  • Tape
First step is to cut the card stock into a butterfly shape. I used my cameo, however if you don't have a cutting machine you can find a free printable butterfly template at http://dan99.blogspot.com/2008/11/butterfly-project-freebie.html.

After you have cut out your butterflies, you take the ink pad and the two and from and stamp each butterfly (stamp the the to and from on the opposite side of the side where you are going to place the lollipop). If you don't have a to and from stamp you can always write to and from on the butterfly with a marker.

Once you are done stamping, turn over and place the lollipop in the middle of the butterfly and tape
to hold in place.  For an added effect you can also bend the butterfly wings into a flying position.

You are done, how simple was that!!!!!  Now you have a cute little Valentine's card that your children can share with their classmates.

Hope you enjoyed this tutorial!!!

I also made some goodie bags for my son. I didn't think he would want to give out butterflies to his classmates!!

See you soon!!!

Random Thoughts

Scheduled Life
I thought my blog life was partly about schedules and timelines. Only to discover that after three days my schedule and timeline is already off. Despite all my spreadsheets with detailed schedules of blog post, time blog is to be posted, and other miscellaneous "STUFF" to keep me on schedule, I am still off.

I guess in all my excitement, I did not pencil in time for my normal day to day chaos. Oh well, we have a true look into a Day in a Life of a Crafty Mom. Moving forward I will pencil in more time for unexpected "STUFF".   Now back to my regularly scheduled program.

Moment of Reflection
During the day I have moments of reflections. In one of those moments, I thought about how many hours a day I spend sitting (I know, not that deep). I knew I spent copious amounts of time sitting and I knew I couldn't be the only one. With so many people stuck at desk, a crafting table, or being on soccer mom duty( I can go on for days with all the sitting task) I knew a big majority of people spent massive time sitting.

In my next thought I wondered, if I was going to sit for so many hours was there anything I could do while sitting. So I reached out to my niece since she is an exercise guru and has her on group("Pretty women Sweat (PWS) https://www.facebook.com/PrettyWomenSweat?ref=ts&fref=ts ). I knew she would have an answer and she did. She told me about the buttock squeeze. I was intrigued, all I had to do was squeeze my buttocks while sitting and I would reap the benefit of having a tight butt. I was excited and immediately my mind went to the image of me looking like this in a pair of jeans.

A girl could dream!!!! Anywho, I am going to give a try and hope you will too!!!! Hope to see you tomorrow!!!

Flower Topiary Tutorial

As promised, here is the flower topiary tutorial. I hope you have as much fun as I did making this topiary!!!!

Supplies
  • Felt (color of choice)
  • Floral Wire
  •  Sponge ball( I got mine from the dollar tree 2 for a $1.00)
  • Scissors
  • Wire Cutter
  • Piece of Styrofoam
  • Ribbon
  • Gift Paper
  • Wooden Dowel
  • Tin pail ( Got mine from the dollar bin at target)

Once you have gathered all your supplies, you cut out the flowers. I used my big kick and a flower template, however you can always use this template that is on pinterest http://www.pinterest.com/pin/51158145739452220/ or you can cut 2 inch felt circles and follow steps below.

When you are done cutting the flowers (I cut about 50 flowers), fold flower in half and fold again. Next, pinch flower at the bottom and wrap the floral wire around several times until you get the desired look of the flower. Cut the excess wire but leave enough to stick into the foam ball.

After you have wrapped all the flowers, stick each flower into the foam ball until it is covered. Make sure you save some room to stick the wooden dowel at the bottom of the flower ball.

Sit the flower ball to the side. Grab the wooden dowel, then dab a small amount of glue on the side of the dowel and wrap the ribbon around until you reach the end of the dowel.I did not cut the ribbon after I finished wrapping  the dowel, I used it to help fill my tin pail.  Next, grab the flower ball and   put a generous amount of hot glue on the dowel and stick into bottom center of the ball.
Grab the tin pail, styrofoam, glue gun and gift paper. Measure and cut the styrofoam to fit into the pail (you can use your scissors to cut styrofoam). After you measured and cut the styrofoam, wrap the styrofoam in gift paper (this step is not mandatory). Once it is wrapped, place hot glue into the bottom of tin to secure the wrapped styrofoam to the bottom of the tin pail.

Grab flower ball dowel and place hot glue around the bottom and stick it into the styrofoam. If you have a larger tin pail you may need to use accent gems or decorative sand to fill it up(you can get the accent gems or decorative sand from the dollar). Now you have a super cute flower topiary!!!
If you have any questions you can leave me a comment or email me.  Have fun!!!See you soon!!!!

Embarking on a new life's journey

Hello my name is Ayisha Hatcher, but everyone calls me Sherry. I am embarking on a new journey in my life and decided it would be super cool to chronicle my experiences in a blog. I am a wife, mother of 2, and a newly established (or getting established) party planner.  After spending about 11 years in the corporate environment I knew I wanted something different, something that I could call my own. During my time of reflection I realized I felt the most fulfilled when I was crafting or planning events. I have always planned my children's parties, Thanksgiving, and Christmases and it is such an enjoyable process for me when I am in planning and decorating mode. So it made sense to me to leap out there and follow my passion (I know very cliche').  So that was it, in my mind I was a party planner!!!!!  So the next step was to execute my party planning skills. Timing was perfect; my daughter had a birthday coming and right then I knew that would be my big debut into party planner land (I have posted some pictures below).  After having a successful debut, I continue to work in corporate and dedicate as much time to my new party planning gig as I could, along with keeping up with my mother and wifely duties, which I always fell short somewhere ( mostly my wifely duties, luckily I have a great guy).  So while I was burning candles at both ends, my dreams seemed to be coming together without great sacrifice to the family or myself.   Yaaayyyyyyyyyyyy me (yeah right), if only if it was that simple.

Most recently we had a big change in my family's dynamic, my job in corporate came to an end.  In that moment I knew it was time for me venture out and do party planning on a full time basis. It was clear that I should take the knowledge I learned being in corporate and my passion for planning and crafting and become the master of my own corporation (maybe not so much a corporation at this point but we get the picture).  However, what effect would that have on my family, I did not know at the time and I am still trying to figure that out.  Hopefully you will take the journey with me and along the way we will all be motivated, and inspired to follow our passion.

Day in a Life of a Crafty Mom blog will have something for everyone and I hope you find it as interesting as I do.  I look forward to sharing and growing with you.

With all that being said, what a perfect time to start chronicling "A Day in a Life of a Crafty Mom" in the month for love!!  I have posted my pictures below of my Valentine's Vignette and on Tuesday I will have a tutorial on the flower topiary that is featured in my Vignette. They are super cute, easy and affordable to make.  Remember to pin!!!!    See you on Tuesday!!!!!  Thanks for visiting my blog!!

Please come back to see me!!!!!
